Q: Do I need to have a college education before entering? What if I'm divorced? What if I have children?

A:Women need to have a high school education and at least one year out of high school before applying to enter. We strongly encourage women to have some college experience, not necessarily complete a degreed program. Divorced women are welcome to apply if they have obtained an annulment from the Church , are practicing Catholics, and at least 3 years past the divorce experience. Children of women looking to enter the congregation need to be over 21, self-sufficient and self-supporting. Women must be free to enter fully into the formation process.

Q: Is there an age limit for becoming a Sister?

A:The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis invite women between the ages of 19 to 45 to apply. Women who are older than 45 will be considered on an individual basis. There is an age limit because we actively minister for a significant period of time after finishing the initial formation process. Young women under the age of 19 are welcome to an extended inquiry journey by seeking a Senior Sister Pen Pal, monthly meetings with the Vocation Minister, weekend visits at the Motherhouse, Marymount Congregational home, or another residence of our sisters.

Q: Do women need to sell everything and turn over all financial assets to the congregation upon entering?

A:NO. Women can make arrangements for their property, possessions, and finances that will free them from being burdened by administrative responsibilities and enable them to enter fully into the formation process. We strongly encourage that women NOT get rid of any of their personal property until they take their Final Vows.

We would also like to invite you to spend some time with the sisters, either at the Motherhouse in Stevens Point, WI, or Marymount Congregational Home in Garfield Heights, OH, or another residence of our sisters.
