Sponsored Institutions
The ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis welcomes all of God's people as sisters and brothers. It is for this reason that sponsorship of institutions by the Congregation is recognized as an expression of mission. In a spirit of collaboration, sponsorship channels, extends and strengthens ministry. Sponsorship provides a strong base to serve unmet needs, to influence public policy, to share and teach Gospel values and to influence and effect needed change. The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis have four Sponsored Institutions.

Our mission is to assist learning and developmentally disabled youth and adults to become self-sufficient and self-directed, in personal growth, general health, education, social and emotional well-being and functional living skills.
In the 1970s, a number of the Congregation's institutions were sold or transferred to local organizations for continued operation. Other institutions the Congregation continued to sponsor were separately incorporated and began to function under the direction of Boards of Trustees/Directors.
Changes continued for the community and in 1990 one centralized governance structure replaced the former three provinces and two regions. Central Service Offices were relocated to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and the convent there is once again known as St. Joseph Motherhouse.
The Congregation continues to be involved in ministries where witness to Gospel values furthers the mission of Jesus and our Franciscan heritage and fulfills the original commitments of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis. The needs of the Church and the people who are served still guide the ministry choices and development of new ventures in ministry.
