St. Joseph
By: Sister Rose Grabowski, SSJ-TOSF
Silent was Joseph,
but lo, he spoke to claim
his beloved Mary and saved
her from shame and disgrace.
Silent was Joseph,
as his dream spoke and he listened
waking Mary and child to
wander into foreign lands for safety.
Silent was Joseph,
but, how he taught Jesus to pray
who grew and learned openness to His Father.
Joseph spoke off Ancient Ways,
of Prophets, of a History sacred
to His people, of a saving God.
Silent was Joseph,
as he cut wood that spoke
of fine art and useful objects,
as he cared for family and taught
his son carpentry and salvation.
Our silent Joseph spoke values, dreams, love
and care...and Jesus grew in wisdom...so do we.
